Time to raise the undead.

For most of the year, zombie fans are relegated to the sidelines of our society, but on Halloween, the spooky, the scary and downright creepy are thrust into the spotlight. Nothing is scarier than the thought of zombies wandering around the earth.

Confession time: I used to be a gym rat.
I loved working out and made sure I got my money’s worth out of my gym membership by spending two to three hours there every day. Ah, life before kids.
I don’t have that kind of time to devote to fitness anymore, nor am I inclined to spend my small pockets of freedom trapped indoors, listening to the pop songs while running in place. I’ve found something much better; Kennedy Park in Coconut Grove.

It doesn’t take many steps, maybe fifteen, to leave the hustle and bustle of Coconut Grove’s Main Highway and step back in time at the Barnacle Historic State Park. Each step brings takes you a little bit closer to tranquility. Traffic sounds give way to rustling leaves and twittering birds as you walk through the forested entrance. This walk is perhaps my favorite part of visiting the Barnacle. It is just so amazing to be right in the heart of Coconut Grove one minute and in the peace of nature the next. Signs herald that you are now entering the “real Florida.”
